Adobe buys Indian AI marketing startup Rilo less than a year after launch
Adobe is licensing Rilo’s workflow automation tech and hiring its six-person team; the standalone product will shut down.
Adobe has bought Rilo, a young Indian startup that automates marketing work for go-to-market teams. It is Adobe's latest move to add agent-style automation to its marketing tools. The deal was announced on September 2, 2026. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
What Rilo built
Rilo automates the repetitive parts of marketing:
- Competitor intelligence: tracking what rivals ship and say.
- Content repurposing and distribution: turning one asset into many and pushing them out.
- Sales call analysis: pulling insights from recorded calls.
Teams could also build custom workflows on it, similar to general-purpose AI work assistants but focused on marketing. The company says more than 10,000 people tested the product before the acquisition.
A fast exit
Rilo was founded in 2025 by Dhruv Jaglan and Georgi Boby, both IIT graduates. It had raised about $1 million from Peak XV Partners, DeVC and Day Zero Ventures, at a valuation reported at $10 million. Reports described the deal as coming less than a year after launch.
How the deal works
- Adobe is taking a licence to Rilo's intellectual property and hiring its six-person team.
- Investors get an exit.
- The standalone Rilo product will shut down.
- Rilo's technology will go into Adobe's customer-experience and marketing suite. There it will handle complex workflows and show users what actions are being taken on Adobe's platform.
An investor from Day Zero Ventures said Rilo's workflow builder was well ahead of the curve and would be valuable to a company of Adobe's size.
Why it matters
The deal follows a pattern that's becoming common in 2026. Incumbents are buying small, agent-first teams instead of building everything themselves, and the startup's product is often shut down in the process. If you rely on a young AI tool for a key workflow, check its roadmap and make sure you can export your data.
